New to Orlando 88 supercharged

Postby karls » Tue Sep 29, 2009 2:01 pm

Hello Florida Mr2 enthusiasts. My name is Karl Shepard and I moved to Oviedo last November. I have an '88 SC. It has been in the shop since last December 1st - a very long story. The idiots at the shop took the engine out and I had it rebuilt. They tried to put it back in but could not figure out the vacuum lines so had it towed and it is now in my garage where I am working to get it back on the road. My dad died last week so I finally was able to get to the car today. I discovered much more that they did not do and other things that I believe were done wrong. I have taken the engine and put it back in myself but this time I had it done because there was so much to do when we first moved here from Oregon. Now I wish I had done it all myself again! Oh well. I talked with Rick Blair and he has agreed to help me by looking at his car so that I can get everything hooked up right. Thanks in advance Rick.

Just a note to say hi and introduce myself.

Karl Shepard

I was not implying that my car is that rwhp, just that only a few people know about why that is funny and what makes it an inside joke.

Hi to all good gentlemen and gals!

Sorry to reply so late but just returned to this forum after a long hiatus. Yes karl found me; and his 88SC and I got along just fine, thanks for the brew Karl! Not sure if Karl completed finishing touches yet but his is a gem of a car. Hope Karl and I will be able to show up in both of our 88 supercharged Mk 1's for the spring fling. I've been very busy building new FP car for autocross (an 89' hard top SC) and hope it will be ready for April "Spring Fling" autocross (was really hoping it would be ready for March SCCA nat. tour event in GA. but not...).

The inside joke about Ricky's 500hp MK2 was that I attempted to autocross it at Geneva last year. Was a hair raising and embarrasing moment for me. I've been autocrossing mostly MR2's (all variations); but have driven wife's Camry, daughter's Protege' 5, and bro's 78' and 05' Corvettes with some success over the last ten years. I was giving an "instructed" run with Ricky in car and everything was good for the first three hundred yards of seriously twisty seat of your pants autocross :D .... except when a given section of straight begged for me to stomp the pedal  ...bad move...as we "got boost" and spun the tires, in which the car jerked a bit left (ok... nearly sideways :( ) in which I quickly decelerated, and counter steered in a safer direction  avoiding (4ft. ramp) "Dukes of Hazard" arial over an elevated grass berm into a lake! After returning to the course from (course side of grassy berm) I think I needed to change my underwear, but am sure Ricky and the dudes chasing cones (inline with Duke's ramp over berm) probably needed to do same. Ricky will tell you that my first (instructor) comment was  "wow...maybe we should turn the boost down a bit" and then a very apologetic   , Damn... that's was crazy!. Thank you Ricky for the adrenalin rush! 8)

See yall at the 2010' spring fling!

Rick I really did not try to air your laundry man, I just referenced it as a joke. It was funny though. Although you do have names a little mixed up. Me=Ricky= 91 AMP Na(then) w/coilovers that you helped me through the course once. Steve=Red, Gt35r (car in discussion)
By the way.. Sean got the incedent on video 8)
You are a fantastic person for instructing anyone on Auto-xing their car and I know that this was a totally iscolated rare event that happend. I would be honored for you to be an instructor for me again in a ride along again this year.
